I liked how the author introduced the book by saying that her role as a life-coach is to talk herself out of a job - in other words, she will help you make changes, interpret yourself etc., so that eventually, you'll have the clarity to be your own coach/guide. You'll be able to stand on your feet and think and do things for yourself. From personal experience, that's the best sign of a good coach/therapist/counsellor - one who sees that you've achieved your goals and that you are ready to strike out on your own as the New You, despite it meaning that they are out of a job themselves.
It is a very straightforward, no-nonsense read, with practical aids such as: Tools of the trade - compartmentalise the things that bother you e.g. health, income, job, relationships and try to decide how well each is working. Write It Down And Do it - something that I've personally adapted, and which works well, and when I tick something off that list, feels good. Goal Setting and Small Is The New Big. Put The Past Behind You are kind of self-explanatory, but can be lost when you are bogged down with the frantic pace of life.
It's an excellent guide that I would certainly recommend, not instead of counselling, but in addition to, as it's a tool that keeps you focussed, encouraged and motivated. It is not CBT-orientated, but does have sections that cover some aspects of stuff covered in CBT, so can help with breaking bad habits. Certainly worth investing time in, especially so, as it being free on the Kindle, you're not investing money! A gem.
