Basically a LED display is illuminated by LEDs. A Plasma screen uses Gasses including Plasma. Googling your question will produce much more

plasma's dont have as longer life as LED's and you can look at the led tv from any angle and you dont get the black screen problem, also although this tv is not glass the screen does look like it is and gives a very good picture, do recommend getting the HDMI cable for this tv as the picture is a much better quality than using scart cables.
