The complete vocal/choral works of Jehan Alain on a double CD. Beautifully sung and played. It is a wonderful tribute to a gifted composer whose life was tragically cut short (defending Saumur against the Nazis) when he was only 29 years old. There are works here that I have been unable to find since the demise of the LP! A treasure trove.

This double disc is absolutely wonderful!! Marie Claire Alain's performance is exceptional as always and her spiritual connection with Jehan Alain's music really shows. The recording quality is superb and it really helps to enhance the beautifully haunting quality of the singing and music. This CD is an absolute must for anyone who loves music, not just choral music fans. In fact, I fail to see how anyone would not be moved by this truly visionary music! 11/10

HASH(0x9d184c54) out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic discovery 11 Mar. 2014

Following on from the review above, I knew nothing of Jehan Alain's music when I bought this set in the 2 Euro shop - YES 2 Euros. A bargain to sample a composer who you don't know, but an absolute bargain considering what a great CD this is. Firstly, the singing is first class, so different to many French choirs who seem to be habitually flat. Then the music, which I'd describe as a French Herbert Howells. This is a CD I'd certainly have been happy paying full price for. I went back to buy some more as gifts for friends, but the canny people of Agen 47 had emptied the shelves.

HASH(0x9d183a98) out of 5 stars What a surprise! 12 Jan. 2014

To anyone whose sole exposure to Alain is through his keyboard works, "Litanies" being the best known, you're in for a delightful surprise. Think of a an amalgam of Durufle and Palestrina. And read Alain's bio. He was an organist and composer, but also a decorated soldier, posthumously unfortunately. Anyway, some very enjoyable music here.
