I have a 60gb SATA HDD (5400 rpm) in my laptop at present and want to upgrade to a larger 500gb drive (again, 5400 rpm). The laptop is running the original install of XP Professional (SP3) and was purchased in December 2006. I can't see any reason so far why this should be a problem, but is there a "techie" that can give some advice please?

Physical size I think. Most HDD's above 500gb need an extra platter thus increasing the thickness from 9mm to 12mm. Or something like that.
