Does what its meant to, but it's big
on 1 June 2013
I am rating this on the basis of the normal price, I bought it on offer so for the price I paid, it would be 4 stars. This mixer is powerful, and big - the 5 litre bowl takes a lot of mix. I like using it, but the problem is that for many occasions it is too big - the instructions tell you that the minimum number of egg whites you can whisk is 4... so I am often scraping the sides during the mix/beating process to make sure everything is mixed properly. It would be nice if there was an option for a smaller bowl and beaters.
Which magazine gave it a reasonable rating, but complained that it is noisy and fitting the splash guard and bowl is awkward. It is quite noisy, it starts with a grating noise, but then I am used to mixers and food processors being noisy. I have found it quite simple to fit and remove the splashguard and bowl.
My biggest bugbear is the design of the base of the bowl. The base is hollow, with a row of holes underneath to allow water to run out. The trouble is that this holds a lot of water, so when you wash the bowl, it retains a lot of water which is difficult to get out, so you can't just wipe it dry - the dishwasher has the same problem.
By the way, there's nothing stunning about it's colour, it's a typical grey with a sheen.
