This excellent quality publication is a valiant attempt to review the basic philosophy of Zen. It does so most successfully with the proviso that of course it is impossible to say exactly what Zen is. Written with humour and off set by frameable Zen illustrations by Andre Sollier this instructive and enlightening book is the perfect gift fo anyone interested in Zen stories, anecdotes and koans and the intentions behind them. Even the 'so-called' expert in Zen will I feel sure get pleasure out of this admirable book by Robert Allen.
