    I purchased this adapter from CAMAC to connect my Raspberry Pi B+ to a Dell flat screen VGA monitor. At first, the adapter didn't seem to be working and the monitor remained blank. However, when contacted, CAMAC were very helpful and provided some hints on how to configure the Raspberry Pi to work properly in this setup.

    All is now working perfectly. It's clear that the 'challenge' was with the Pi rather than the adapter.

    The settings that worked for my Pi and monitor were:

    hdmi_force_hotplug=1
    disable_overscan=1
    config_hdmi_boost=4
    hdmi_drive=2
    hdmi_group=2
    hdmi_mode=36
    framebuffer_width=1280
    framebuffer_height=1024

    These settings needed to be added at the end of the Pi's /boot/config.txt file.

    Note that the 'hdmi_mode' setting of 36 tells the Pi that my monitor resolution is 1280 x 1024 with a refresh rate of 75 Hz. This, and the following two lines, will need to be changed if your screen resolution and/or refresh rate are different to mine.

    I quickly realised this type of product is bogus. The type of signal for a HDMI to VGA is different so you need a HDMI to VGA converter which this is not! Even though it doesn't cost a lot, don't waste your money - IT WILL NOT WORK!!

    Works fine. I connected my Galaxy Note 8 to my VGA projetor using a Samsung micro USB to HDMI lead and plugging this device into the female HDMI socket to convert to VGA then simply plugaged my projector standard VGA lead to connect my projector. There is even an audio jack lead provided for sound. the ultimate picture displayed May be slightly reduced in sizebut I can now use my Galaxy to output to the projector. Good value for money. Does what it says on the package.

    This replaces an earlier review which was less complementary after an attemptto connect to my TV VGA input in PC mode, probably an unfair test.

    Bought to attach tablet to projector, video is very good however sound does not work, seems to have not encoded properly through the device and just gives off static, worked around this however just be warned.

    I bought this to connect my new laptop (HDMI output only) to my old video projector (VGA input only), and also to an audio amplifier. It works very well, picture and sound quality are excellent, the price was good and it takes very little space in the carry bag. But the compact size does bring some potential problems: with the adapter plugged into the laptop HDMI output, and a heavy VGA cable then plugged into the adaptor, there is quite a strain on both connectors - particularly if you move the laptop. If the VGA plug partially detaches, it will affect the picture quality. Most VGA connectors come with fixing screws to ensure a secure connection, but this little adapter has none.

    So it works well - provided you don't move the laptop or the VGA cable.

    I bought this to use with a Raspberry Pi. It worked ok in itself and automatically set the resolution to match the monitor. However, it sucked too much power from the Pi's HDMI port and caused the USB ports to malfunction, even when using a powered USB hub. I tried several different power supplies but could not get the USB keyboard to work reliably (fine when using a TV as the monitor).

    I would recommend using a separately-powered adapter with a Pi.

    Works very well with my Full HD TV and PC monitor. Does not work with my 1440 x 900 monitor but this is to do with my laptop, not the product. If your laptop supports 1440 x 900 then it will most probably work. When used with my TV it allows me to watch YouTube music videos with ease. When connected to my monitor it produces a completely silent desktop PC when used with my Chromebook. It cures an issue with my Chromebook whereby if I connect it directly to my TV using HDMI there is a border missing from the edge of the screen. When connected with this device via VGA it is perfect. It also means I can use the same VGA cable to connect my PC to my TV if required.

    Frankly, I bought this with little hope that it would work: I had already tried another product from a different manufacturer to connect my HP Ultrabook to a second, VGA monitor and that simply would not work at all. However, I was delighted when this worked immediately! I simply plugged it in and the monitor came to life.

    As it has such a small footprint it is very unintrusive and feels rather more like a simple cable adaptor than the other bulkier units that are available.

    If like me you need to connect a VGA-in monitor to an HDMI-out PC then I highly recomment the CAMAC adaptor.
