"Great for adults too...." - by coddie2
Never mind the kids.... i am in my 50s and bought it for myself and love it! The quality of the paints and the paper is really top. I sat for ages just doodling with the exercises they set for you. The casual language of the book is very suitable for any age. Its great for getting a feel for textures and colours and composition before you embark on the real thing. It has really got me started and enthused as i have always had a barrier about starting on an empty page. Just goes to show to don’t need to spend a shedload of money on equipment. Might be improved even more if they had a variety of paper textures to play with too.

"beautiful" - by K. Platt (Sheffield, England)
Michael presents a 6-stage process to painting any flower you like in detail. It's a mix of traditional techniques and contemporary style to produce detailed flower portraits. There are sections on colour (including greens), drawing (simplifying the process into shapes), tone, composition and dissection. 12 excellent step-by-step projects are included with full-size tracings provided. Find out how to select, prepare and draw flowers and how to mix colours. Michael has chosen to depict favourite flowers with wide appeal - rose, calla lily, iris, magnolia and pansy amongst others. Throughout you will find Michael's inspirational flower paintings. Achieve good results even as a beginner. This book is based on two previously published books.

"A gentle structured approach to watercolours" - by Marand (Warwickshire, UK)
This is a well thought out guide to developing watercolour painting skills. The aim is to take one guided exercise everyday, each one building a particular skill - starting with basic shapes, then looking at things like the effects of light, hue, perspective, creating volume and depth. Each day's exercise takes between 40 minutes and an hour so it isn't an arduous or time-consuming programme to follow. The final week involves combining the techniques that you have learned into a painting. This section didn't really resonate with me - it is based on desert landscapes and jungle. Whilst my interest lies in landscape painting, I live in the rolling hills and green landscapes of the Cotswolds. Nonetheless this is an inviting book to encourage you to develop your skills from a zero or low base. Will your work be perfect after thirty days? Almost certainly not, but I think the ... full review

"The best book I have found on the techniques of oil painting" - by tinaviljoen@cs.com (London. England)
Bill Creevy manages to cover a wide range of subjects in a relatively small book. In addition to traditonal oils and oil painting techniques he discusses alkyds, water-miscible oils and oil sticks. My quibble with this book and most others is that while he covers wipe-out methods and 'alla prima' he never discusses how to mix oil paints with solvents or painting mediums in detail. I know you are not supposed to over-thin and you have to work 'fat over lean'. But I don't know when thin is too thin! I found he does stick to the subject more than 'Painting with Oils' by Patricia Monahan which spends too much time discussing composition and colour mixing (pretty much the same for oils and water-based media). I do recommend it.

"Perfect for acrylics and watercolours (but not too watery)" - by Dan P.
Pretty good paper to paint on with pretty much any paint, however I found it just a little bit too thin for lots of watercolour, as the paper get just a bit wavy. Should be perfect for acrylics and not too watery watercolours. The texture is very nice as well.
