"Great book for the Uke beginner" - by John T (UK)
This is Absolute Beginners Ukulele Book 1 and 2 combined so rather than buy both books, save a couple of Pounds and buy this one.

I've read many of the Uke beginner books available and this one is by far the best in my opinion. You'll be playing chords and strumming along to simple songs in literally minutes. There isn't any need to read music which is where some of the other books let themselves down. Absolute Beginners Ukulele has loads of diagrams, photos and chord positions as well as hints and tips to improve your technique. There are sections on both strumming techniques and finger picking. The book includes numerous songs to play along with and the CD gives you an example of how the song should sound with the uke included, and then gives you the backing track without the uke so that you can play along ... full review

"Good starter." - by P. Robson (Norwich, Norfolk United Kingdom)
This is a very good clear gentle introduction to playing a Uke, though it must always be remembered that you really do need internet access to access the video and audio. You can work just from the book but won't work as well. It takes things very slowly - the first three days are all one chord songs, then F/C7 C/G7 and finally C/F/G7 in day 6. But you can play a lot of songs with C,F,G7....

Even though both of the authors are musicians (pianists I think ?) and the course is well thought out, there's something about the videos especially that is entertainingly "amateurish", the videos look like one (sometimes two) people playing the Uke in their kitchen and enjoying it without being too serious. Possibly because that's what it is. This approach , rather than a formal precise one, I think encourages you to perform ... full review

"This book has just added to my knowledge of the ukulele and that is good. I recommend it" - by Devere Wolfe (scotland)
I have purchased other ukulele material before, books, CD's and even a DVD tutorial disc. Ukulele's have only four strings, the top four of a guitar and therefore, for some might appear easier to play. This book has just added to my knowledge of the ukulele and that is good. I recommend it.

"Superb, but meant for the serious student of baritone ukulele. This is NOT a dip-into-it type of tutor." - by A.Sturgess (UK)
Like 'Theo' I also loved the original 'Ukulele Aerobics' book and, also like 'Theo' I found it intensely frustrating to have to keep transposing exercises for my baritone uke. Despite that, I posted a detailed 5 star review for that book. The majority of the comments I made are applicable to this new and much-welcomed book and I therefore feel justified in copying and editing most of them here for this Baritone version because the structure and content of the book cover the same ground in the same superb way. However there are a few significant differences which I will also aim to describe.

-------------------------

In my opinion, this book is really for anyone who considers themselves to be a serious student of the baritone uke. This is most definitely NOT a book to dip into nor look at now and then, nor is it a ... full review

"A Really Good Starter Book." - by Glenn Cook (South Cave, near Hull UK)
There are two versions of this book.

This is the second edition.
I also have the first edition.

It is an excellent book.
If you are a complete learner, as I am, then you could do no better than get this book.

It explains everything and informs how to play cords and so on.

It has that happy knack of educating, informing and amusing as do most of the books in the 'For Dummies' series.

I would also encouarge you to get a large print book showing you the finger positions for chords.

The book in its second edition has about 3 and a half chapters changed.
Not for the better but just different.
The book has increased in price from the fitrst edition by £2.
(2GBP) BUT

The original came complete with a really useful CD.
The second 'improved edition; ... full review

"Handy" - by Kenny Irons
Handy starter book for the ukelele. Nothing too technical but very American. Not exactly a tome but hey bud, just a few bucks!
