"Not quite as described!" - by Margaret Knox Mueller
Although this is a good quality product and a nice size I was disappointed that the only colour illustration is on the slip cover.
There are no other illustrations but the pages have monochrome decorative elements and gold edging.

"Awesome" - by dynevorman
I stand in awe at the imagination, the technical knowledge, the understanding of humanity, the research and story-telling ability of some authors. A tale about the life of a man of the cloth in Denmark and Greenland in the late 18th century doesn't sound promising but this is a fantastic read. One of those books where the pages contain such detail and authenticity that it's hard to believe the writer didn't actually live through it. One of the most original books I have ever read. Kim Leine could have shortened the 23 pages devoted to the city fire (because the reader is desperate to find out the fate of Magister Falk) but that's minor. I also bow to Martin Aitken, who translated it from the Danish - a masterpiece.

"Dark secrets." - by Tony336 (linconshire UK)
Having read the first novel in the series, I couldn't wait to read this . Francis Ackerman, the protagonist in the first book is still free and Marcus Williams his hunter is now part of a team that helps the regular law agencies. This is a book full of twists and is difficult to put down as it draws you in. Here Ackerman seems to be helping the Shepherd organization and Marcus in particular .
You will have to read the book as I do not want to say too much and give the plot away. Let's just say , the final twist is a surprise.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series and recommend this highly .

"Sequential Circuits" - by Mr. A. J. Miles (UK)
There are a number of books on the development of the synthesizer especially around Robert Moog but little dedicated to other manufactures. If you are interested in history of synthesizers then David Abernethy's book is well researched into the story of Sequential Circuits the makers of what was then the Sequential Prophet 5. Along with the MiniMoog, ARP Odyssey the Prophet 5 became one of the most influential synthesizers of the late 70's. Chapter 1 puts the beginnings of Sequential Circuits into context with other synth manufactures and is a theme which continues throughout the book. The introduction of the DX7 by Yamaha killed off the Prophet 5 is the theme of chapter 9. There are lots of snipits of interviews from ex-employees of Sequential, users and Dave Smith himself.

The only downside is at A4 size with 258 pages it's a heavy book and the soft cover ... full review

"a job well done" - by Mr. Nj Mcallister (Surrey, Britain)
If it is conspiracy theory you are after look elsewhere. If however you want an incredibly well researched book on the House of Rothschild and the periods of history they span then this is a good intelligent read. Ferguson is an historian at the top of his game and he produces the goods here. My only criticism is that I would have liked a bit more juicy gossip and it is very long. However in fairness it is also a huge subject and I don't think it would have been possible to cover it in less pages and Ferguson does history not Hello Magazine

"Excelent sci-fi" - by T. Saunders
This book is possibly the best sci-fi comic to grace my shelves. It is fantastically imaginative space opera from a previous era. The strange alien wonder reminds me of Cordwainer Smith, but the pacing is more suitable to modern writing. This is an epic in the making. Please buy it so they'll keep writing more of it!

"A forgotten classic" - by Blackhorse47 (Moray, Scotland)
The Pelmen fantasy trilogy has been largely overlooked, never gaining the acclaim it deserves. This is sad as the series is traditional enough to entertain fantasy fans while also being just different enough to mean I'd recommend it to both the non-fantasy fan and anyone who has become bored with the usual fantasy conventions.

The story concerns a divided land in which the only passage from one kingdom to the next is a pass that has been controlled by a mighty two-headed, and argumentative, dragon for many hundreds of years. Then one day Pelmen, an adventurer and all-round likeable chap, happens across the path and with the aid of some fast talking he persuades the dragon to take flight so he can gain passage through the pass. Now both lands, which have developed along different lines, are free to interact and fight.

The story that follow relates Pelmen's ... full review

"Best series ever?" - by J. F. J. Larner (England)
There aren't many fantasy series that come even close to equalling the achievements of R. Scott Bakker's masterful Prince of Nothing series. No, scratch that - that aren't many series PERIOD that can touch this one for plot, characterisation and sheer creative genius. A Lord of the Rings for the new millenium. Seriously.
If you haven't read the first book, the Darkness That Comes Before, then get that first... though you might as well buy this one and the third installment too now and save yourself some time.
This series should be read by all fantasy fans, and anyone else who just likes an amazing read. The characters and places are real and believeable, with an astoundingly detailed history, and the plot sweeps you up and carries you away. This is fantasy on a truly epic scale, involving a holy war, political intrigue, huge, well-described battles and one of the ... full review
