"A Selection from the Collection" - by Mac McAleer (London UK)
This book is a selection of 300 of the artworks at the Tate Modern, London. The artworks each have a single page consisting of explanatory text about the artist and the artwork and a colour photograph of the work. The examples are in alphabetical order by artist name. It is a good introduction to the work at the Tate Modern as well as modern and contemporary art in general.

The Tate Modern is a collection of modern and contemporary British and International work. Across the River Thames is Tate Britain, which is dedicated to work by British artists over the centuries. Whether a modern British artist is displayed at the Tate Britain or Tate Modern is a fluid decision. Thus, paintings by Francis Bacon can be found at both.

THE COVER shows a close-up of "Babel" by [[ASIN:1854377361 Cildo Meireles]] from 2001. This is a tower of radios of various types, ... full review

"Good Overview" - by D J Cawthorne
Good overview of the Tate Modern collection. It is the third revised edition from 2012 so a few things have chenged since that time. When the Tate extension is complete there will no doubt be a further completely revised edition as so much more will be displayed. This extension (according to the Tate internet site) is due to be completed in Dec 2016.
We will all need to visit and purchase the new edition then.

"Great way to develop own artistic styles with small" - by Ozwozzle
My daughter loves these books...... Great way to develop own artistic styles with small children

"A very good example of its kind" - by Dr R (Norwich, UK)
This Handbook for Tate Modern was published in 2006 and includes not only key works from the Collection and a description of the `Tate Modern phenomenon', but also an illustrated description of the transformation of the original power station.

The 4 illustrated essays are `The Magic Box' by Andrew Marr, `From Then to Now and Back Again: Tate Modern Collection Displays' by Frances Morris, `Raw Materials:Tate Modern Programme' by Sheena Wagstaffe and Towards Tate Modern' by Michael Craig-Martin.

Marr describes the experience of visiting the museum and positions it within its immediate context of the Thames, the wobbly Millennium Footbridge and the nearby restaurants, specialist shops, markets and pubs, and also within the boundaries of a changing capital city - the book was published shortly before the financial crisis. Morris introduces the museum's collection displays with a colour plate of Rachel Whiteread's `EMBANKMENT 2005', an installation of white cubes that recall the ... full review

"Attractive, nicely written, very nicely illustrated" - by Androo (UK)
I like the focus of this book on the changing skyline of London over the decades. It's divided into chapters for each decade from the 1920s to date, and each decade is illustrated with understated elevations of the significant buildings plus illustrations of cars or planes or other designed items from the same period. The text that threads it all together is highly readable and concise. It's not over simplified, but doesn't go into overwhelming detail either. You get an overview of each building illustrated, and each is put into historical and social context. I think this is very well judged. Flicking through on receiving the book, my eye was immediately caught by what I thought was the famous Trellick Tower by the Hungarian architect Ernõ Goldfinger but was in fact a similar but earlier building by him I didn't know about. The text tells the story of Goldfinger and ... full review

"The enduring fascination with Modigliani" - by Serghiou Const (Nicosia, Cyprus)
The book accompanies a major retrospective exhibition of Modigliani's work at Tate Modern. It is a landmark publication with one hundred full-page color photos covering the full spectrum of the artist's prolific but brief life - he died in 1920 aged 35 of tubercular meningitis accelerated by his heavy alcoholic drinking and substance abuse - comprising drawings, sculpture and paintings of portraits and nudes. Modigliani produced memorable images in the early twentieth century absorbing diverse artistic and cultural influences but expressed in his confident and unique style. Eight insightful and superbly documented essays shed light on these influences. The effect of living in Paris - initially at Montmartre and subsequently at Montparnasse - then the hotbed of artistic and intellectual life, the influence of African and Oceanic sculpture, the influence of the age of cinema, his poetic influences and that of modern women. ... full review
