"Excellent for self discovery" - by CatOuttaTheBag 😽 (UK)
These are an excellent resource to have in a journey of self discovery. There are lots of varied questions across all subjects from love to family, work, to perceived character flaws and sexual urges.

I guarantee if you spend some proper time on this there are questions that will really make you think about who you are and what you really want from life.

On the front of each card a question is posed. Some are quick fire things you could work through in less than a minute, others may require a bit more time and effort (such as making a list of all the mistakes you feel you've made throughout your life and what you learned from each one).

On the back of each card is a thought to reflect upon with your answer. Rarely is there a "right" or "wrong" answer but the reflection just gives you some balanced perspective ... full review

We all love this in our family. It breaks out conversational habits, gives our quieter child an opportunity to be heard, and has helped us teach our noisy children how to listen!

"Refreshing if familiar" - by artfan
Familiar plot does not deter from the visual quality of this film.
Despite being un original the characters are given memorable life by the fine cast.
Acting and scenery make it a refreshingly old fashioned experience.

"Junior School of Life" - by Jon (Bristol, UK)
I love this book. I'm a big fan of the School of Life and its approach of gently applying ideas from philosophy to soothe our everyday woes. Big Ideas for Curious Minds takes the School's "consolations of philosophy" approach and presents it in a form suitable for children.

The ideas presented are practical, focusing on problems we all have and which affect children too. What things really make me happy? Do I want the right things? Why are other people mean to me sometimes? What is the real reason I'm in a bad mood?

Each problem is presented and then framed in terms of a particular philosopher's viewpoint. The viewpoints are chosen to help children develop an understanding of why they - and others - feel the way they feel and of how they can think about things to feel better. I hope this will give my children a bit of a ... full review

"Great quotations. Mediocre presentation." - by Amazon Customer
Hilariously over written but still thought provoking and inspiring. Cartoons or small illustrations on each card may lift the mediocre presentation.

"3 stars for the content but 4 stars in the end, because of the relevance and importance of the topic." - by Giuseppe E. Bignardi (UK)
Is there a better resolution, at the beginning of a new year than trying to be nicer? This is where this new book (On being nice) might come handy. Quite rightly, as it says in the introduction, the importance of being nice, as opposed to being richer or thinner, is grossly underrated. The book does not have a named author: it comes from the School of Life, a global organisation dedicated to developing emotional intelligence. The book is nicely compact. I am not too convinced about the arguments in the first 4 sections as to why we do not always try to be nice. Most of the book though, especially section III on charm, seems to worthwhile reading with practical suggestions and strategies. Has the book turned me into an even nicer man? As we all know, knowledge does not necessarily change behavior, but at least I am bit ... full review

"A perfect gift for someone preparing to travel." - by Sue Cartwright (UK)
A lovely collection of thought provoking short essays with note pages for jotting down things like 'useful foreign phrases' or to 'give drawing a go'.

This book is very well presented with interesting quotes, images and photographs on different coloured pages on quality paper. It therefore has a nice feel and is really easy to read, no complex theories here. However, each piece on different aspects of travel is written well and makes you think which has real value.

I particularly liked 'Small Pleasures' on the appreciation of the minor, ordinary things you come across on your travels; 'Travel as a Cure for Shyness' on freeing yourself from inhibitions; 'The Pleasures of Nature' on how nature calms us because none of our troubles, disappointments or hopes has any relevance to it; and 'Cherishing Memories' on learning to regularly travel around our minds to reflect on trips we once took.

So enjoyable, and a ... full review

"This is an excellent set of cards" - by L.A.T. Vroomen
This is an excellent set of cards, whether you're having a career crisis or not, whether you're looking to change your job or not. They're interesting and fun to read whatever your professional status. The cards put things into perspective - apparently the job market has never been as complex as it is now, so no wonder we sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the choice out there - and encourage us to think in less linear ways about our career(s): "Our prospective working lives are like Russian dolls. There are at least five utterly plausible career selves within each of us. We are multiple beings in vain search of singular identities." Bearing this in mind, it's worth doing the exercise in which you ask friends to come up with five alternative jobs you might be suited to. Expect surprises!

"Good, short read, We are all mad....how mad are you?" - by CB (Oxford, UK)
I read this after feeling very misunderstood yet wanting to keep on keeping on....it helped. Reading it now for a second time. It's not cheesy, straight to the point and helpful. It's also a very short book so it can be read quite quickly to maximise its usefulness!
