"Ideal resource for an IFA" - by Marc
My role as a financial advisor involves regular meetings with business professionals. As most of our conversations are financially based it is essential that I communicate both confidently and use the right language. Even though I’m not an accountant, as a related finance professional it is expected I know my amortisation from my depreciation etc. For this purpose, I have found ‘The Finance Book’ an invaluable resource. I am able to pick it up before a meeting and quickly gain a briefing on a wide variety of financial topics. What I really like is that I can choose my level of depth, sometimes I need to focus just on what I need to know. On other occasions I wish to explore more detail and this book serves both needs. Thoroughly recommended for anyone who needs to communicate confidently using accounting terminology and understand what it means.

"Take Control of your financial future!" - by Review Robot X345Yu8
John Kay is an excellent writer - his books and columns are always fascinating and informative.

In this book he lays out a framework for thinking about how to invest for your long term future. It is not 'easy' reading but sure enough the content matter demands that it is treated seriously by the reader.

If you follow his advice I am confident you will be better off by a considerable amount within a decade - however this will take effort on the part of the reader and also a considerable amount of courage to take personal responsibility instead of relying heavily on institutions. This is a book to read several times to remind you of its key arguments. Foremost of these is that financial intermediaries are there to make money from you - if you can minimize use expensive financial tools, minimize fees and commissions you will be much better off ... full review

"For Smarter Dummies" - by Sockymon (UK)
Whilst the dummies guide books may have a reputation for being over simplistic at times, I found this to be a helpful accompaniment to what I was already doing in my day job. I don't work in finance, but I work with a lot of teams within finance and I often felt that the concepts and ideas they talked about were a few steps removed from what I was familiar with. This book takes those ideas and breaks them down into the core principles and theories that sit behind them. If I didn't already have some idea of them, then I might find this a bit daunting, but as a way to break down the barrier between myself and my colleagues who live and breath this world, this book has been very useful.
