"A worthy read." - by P. Nelson (Halifax, west Yorkshire.)
I bought this book some time ago. I've read it through several times and now mostly use it as a reference book.

There are essentially two ways you can read this book; as a (very good) recipe book, or a political/economic monograph.

I've looked at it from both angles;

As a recipe book it's awesome. It obviously doesn't cover every recipe for a ferment out there, but it does include enough to keep most people happy for a very very long time. As a recipe book I recommend it wholeheartedly. However, were it really shines is in it's message.

Woven throughout the pages is a strong anti-establishment vibe. Screw the big food producers. Sod the health and safety laws. Do-it-yourself is what this book is all about. It's that kind of anti-establishment, essentially libertarian thinking that makes this book so very cool.

I cannot recommend ... full review

"Great book!" - by SGM
This was bought for me as a present from a friend who knows how much I love all things food related. Well, it was an excellent choice indeed! Aside from it being a beautiful looking book with gorgeous photographs and layout, it is also written in a really personable, friendly style. I was actually already aware of the author from her previous Hungry Student book range (of which I own several) and this is exactly what I had come to expect from Ms Pike - although she's moved into a wholly different area of food. I have never really experimented with fermented products beyond miso, although I have eaten many of them in Asian restaurants and really enjoyed them. I have only tried a few recipes from the book but so far but they have all turned out brilliantly so I'm looking forward to trying many more! Awesome book and ... full review

"Not all vegan recipes, but a lovely book nevertheless." - by S. Mcallister (London UK)
I love Dubja Gulin's other books so I got this as a matter of course. This book is similar in format to the others, except it's a paperback. Her passion for creating beautiful food comes through in her writing. The introduction is personal and helpful. Gorgeous photos accompany all of the recipes and they really inspire you to get into fermenting. But fermenting is a slow process so don't think you'll be able to recreate any of the recipes in a matter of minutes.

If you know nothing about fermenting foods, this book would be a good starting place. It's not dry and technical. It covers the basics and has lovely looking recipes to take you beyond.. Please be aware this book is not fully vegan, unlike Dunja's other books. Several of the recipes feature dairy produce. Also be aware (certainly if you are in the UK) that ... full review

"Comprehensive Fermentation Cookbook" - by ACB(swansea)
My interest in fermentation comes alongside 'gut' data and books, suggesting fermentation can naturally improve the bacteria in our intestines with health implications. I looked at similar publications but this book is comprehensive and understandable. Step by step, it explains the fermentation process, what to do and what can go wrong with expert remedies. As a novice, I showed this to my 92 year old mother who knows these basic processes from her war experiences. Innovation was discussed. We agree, (no arguments from me), with my mother telling me there are different ways of skinning a cat. We concurred on the healthier options. A slight problem is with the quantities, not with the ingredients. Following the authors' advice with recipes that are clear and explanatory, with tips and potential pitfalls listed in a one-to ten formula. Making quarts of products and storage in a fridge is beyond ... full review

"Great little book - excellent value" - by Chris Thomas (Shropshire, UK)
One of the clearest books I have found on fermentation, with a great selection of recipes. Hard to understand why anyone would give a negative revue, given the excellent scope, information and general usefulness.

"Informative, educational and tasty" - by D. Boskma (UK)
This book is one that I wished for for years. I didn't it existed until I bought Sally Fallons book. I have always wanted to know more about fermentation and this book clearly describes a lot of way of fermenting various veggies and how to make sourdough etc.
There is no meat and fish in there, but I sure do hope that Sandor will also write a book on the meat and fish fermenting topic. I would surely buy it.
Back to the roots is how I would call it, and with that, back to a better health.

The book makes it easy the process of fermenting veggie though, not enough for me to get starting and all the hassle. Interesting facts on fermented food that I didn't know and which might help my troubled digestion.

"really good recipes" - by Evelyn McMann
These recipes are really good, and I find the names very cute. It has recipes that are modified from my favorite foods, plus it has great desserts too. I first tried raw burgers and it was definitely a hit to my whole family. I'm excited to try Alfredo Pasta next.
