I love this series - the cast are all convincing in their parts. I am sorry to hear that they are only making one more series. I will be sad to see this marvellous TV show end.

"Great Aussie-noir crime/drama/thriller set in Ballarat" - by le Grande Banane (Australia)
Great Aussie-noir crime/drama/thriller set in Ballarat, Victoria during the 50's post-war period. Doctor Lucien Blake (Craig McLachlan), a former P.O.W. still grieving for his missing daughter and deceased wife, returns from the war in Seouth East Asia to pick up and carry on the local medical practice of his late father, inheriting in the process a house-keeper/receptionist Mrs. Jean Beazley (Nadine Gardner). Blake frustrates, annoys and generally interferes with the crime-solving of the local constabulary led by Chief Superintendent Matthew Lawson and his constables. The first 2 or 3 episodes of Season one were a little underwhelming as the actors and writers were initially focussed on developing the characters rather than the plot lines imho. The series writing has picked up the pace in this second season, with better written stories with fully developed plots. Wonderful acting from both the main & the supporting casts, partnered with beautiful production ... full review

"One of the best mysery series I've seen." - by irish75
I love this series. The acting is superb -- normal people reacting with just enough contradictions thrown in to make it unpredictable. McLachlan is a real person with untapped emotional depths. Hard to figure out how he will react but it always seems right. He solves murders despite obstacles from authority, and isn't afraid to tackle powerful people. The plots are believable and there's humor, too, which is hard to pull off in murder mysteries. The whole cast is great and they work very well together. A great series. Hope it goes on a long time.
