"As described" - by Charlotte Wills
I ordered this book as I am looking to take the ACE exam later on this year. I have used after effects for over 6 years and this book is teaching new things so I would highly reccomend. Delivery was fast, however despite asking amazon to leave in a safe place the driver failed to do so first time round so had to wait an additional day for delivery. Item is as described.

"The After Effects Illusionist by Chad Perkins." - by LightningAd (Northwest, UK)
The After Effects Illusionist by Chad Perkins.

The idea behind this book is a simple one. To describe, with examples, what every native effect that ships in Adobe After Effects is capable of doing and to help inspire by showing creative ways to use them.

I use After Effects daily as part of my job as a commercials editor, and i know how difficult it can be to find the time to sit down and experiment with all the variables in all the effects. I have favourites that i call upon all the time, and there are a lot that i have never tried, for whatever reason. And this is exactly the reason Chad Perkins has written this book.

It is grouped into chapters that follow the same listings as the sequence the effects appear in the plug-in menu. The book is well written and copiously populated with full colour images illustrating the ... full review

"Fantastic" - by Pouya
I purchased this book a week ago to learn AE with no prior experience. I absolutely LOVE this book, its detailed, precise and very well laid out. I'm on Lesson 5 as we speak and just taking 2 minutes out to review it because its SUCH a good book, and what i love mostly about it is that its FUN learning from this book. The exercises in the book result in some quite ugly videos BUT those ugly videos contain A LOT of things that you need to learn, so by the end of each lesson your video might be really rubbish looking but the point here isn't to make nice looking videos, its to learn, and this book does just that, it combines a lot of different exercises and effects in each lesson to cover a wide range of AE features.

Highly recommended if your new to AE

"After Effects WOW!!!!" - by andy serevitch
As a New Media Designer who occasionally invests good money in a book, for me there is always a feeling of dread when buying tutorial infested books, simply because theres always a chance vital information may be wrong, or there might be important files missing from the CD. There's a slight risk factor. So it was a severe relief when this book came through my door.(Thanks Amazon!:)) As soon as I glanced through it I learnt an array of information on After effects. Each page is chock full, well written and most importantly, completly accurate. As an average After Effects user, there is always that temptation to skip a few chapters, but starting from page one paid off as I found I learnt far more than I bargained for, shortcuts and methods I had previously overlooked. Even the CD impressed me. It features Free plug ins, tons of source material ... full review

"Common sense with Expressions" - by J.R. Heape (Manchester, UK)
Like many other After Effects users, I've avoided expressions thinking them way beyond my understanding, especially when you visit the creativecow website and watch the "genius" of the Ebberts, Rabinowitz and Larsen tutorials. You sort of just sit in amazement.
But no more !!!
This book explains everything in simple terms and logic. I've looked at expressions in the After Effects program manual and got lost after three or four pages, and other After Effects tutorial books and done the same. This book is fun to read and most importantly, to understand.
Now, what they do on creativecow is making sense. It'll take time - but it's making sense.
I reckon this is THE book for anyone wanting to understand expressions and I can't recommend it too highly.
Well done, Mr Geduld.

"Excellent but not a primer for AE" - by RussUK (UK)
As others have commented this is not for the beginner and I have to say some of went above my current knowledge. However, with the associated files, I think I will get the areas I was a bit puzzled by later. But I have dipped in and out of this, and am very impressed. This is not a rehash of all the same old effects, or walkthroughs. Rather, it explains the next stage - how to composite well, the problems and workarounds for e.g keying.
Overall an excellent book, but if you're just starting out - try the Meyer book or online training.
If you want to suddenly get some of the more advanced topics, this is the best book I've seen and there were quite a few "eureka" moments reading it.

"A great guide and recommended" - by Ian Stark (Hampshire, UK)
Compared with the other Cinema 4D related title I have just reviewed, this book is great! Clear layout, decent print quality so you can actually see the screenshots, Interesting (if not spectacular) exercise examples, well written and logically structured. The only reason it dropped a star is that I would have liked a little more in the way of examples of the integration between C4D and AE. If I could have dropped a half star rather than a full star I would have. Recommended for anyone who is as excited about the inclusion of C4D in their Adobe CC subscription but needs a bit of a leg up to getting it all to work :-)

"Back to school" - by Amazon Customer (London UK)
I have been using Classrooms in a book since Photoshop 2.5, they are an excellent learning aid for anyone wanting to get to grips with an Adobe application. This After Effects CS5 book keeps up the high standard. The excercises are first class, all images for the tutorials are on a DVD which is included with book. Highly recommended.

"BE WARNED" - by Freddie
Your computer needs to be 64 bit in order for After Effects to work on it. I bought this without knowing this but luckily I have two computers, the one I wasn't going to use for editing happened to be 64 bit so I guess I was lucky. Make sure you have a 64 bit computer before buying this product.
On to the product. After Effects is a marvelous editing tool with many unbelievable features; I can't even begin to fathom how adobe started working on it. It is expensive, but it is worth the money if vfx is something you want to go into. I would recommend only someone like me who wants to do a lot of vfx buy it, but I think if you are serious about pursuing vfx then this is a must for you.
But again, make sure you aren't going to stop using this fantastic program ... full review

"The Best book there is on After Effects" - by Video Editor (Devon, UK)
Creating Motion Graphics With After Effects CS3
by Trish & Chris Meyer

If you're serious about using After Effects professionally then I'd recommend that you buy this book. It covers all the main areas of AE from basic animation, lighting, 3D, Expressions and beyond. It does all this clearly and concisely with well structured chapters, and an accompanying DVD of carefully structured tutorials that integrate exceptionally well with the chapter examples.

At nearly 700 pages it's a weighty book - but this is indicative only of it's depth and breadth. It's been well laid out too with lots of illustrations to compliment the text. And speaking of the text; it's clear and detailed, and yet very accessible to any level of user.

In an application that has almost limitless possibilities (and if you know anything about After Effects you'll know how true this is), the authors, Trish and Chris Meyer, well respected experts in ... full review

"Swiftly equips you with skills to navigate AE" - by Anon Starter (England)
This DVD has 10 hours' worth of tutorials that give you a very well-rounded introduction to AE. They're split up into logical subject chapters, and within those they are broken into bitesize videos of 5-10 mins length, in which either Angie or Todd (who are both clear, engaging hosts) will show you how a particular part of AE's interface works or what tools you use to achieve a particular technique. The DVD also includes project files for you to do the steps they're doing for yourself in AE. They're a little picture-in-picture 'watch while you work' mode but the best thing to do would be to load the vids on a tablet and have AE open on your computer.

AE is really an amazing piece of software, with a huge range of tools at your disposal. These videos cover a good breadth of topics and often do so in quite a ... full review
