"The After Effects Illusionist by Chad Perkins." - by LightningAd (Northwest, UK)
The After Effects Illusionist by Chad Perkins.

The idea behind this book is a simple one. To describe, with examples, what every native effect that ships in Adobe After Effects is capable of doing and to help inspire by showing creative ways to use them.

I use After Effects daily as part of my job as a commercials editor, and i know how difficult it can be to find the time to sit down and experiment with all the variables in all the effects. I have favourites that i call upon all the time, and there are a lot that i have never tried, for whatever reason. And this is exactly the reason Chad Perkins has written this book.

It is grouped into chapters that follow the same listings as the sequence the effects appear in the plug-in menu. The book is well written and copiously populated ... full review

"Fantastic" - by Pouya
I purchased this book a week ago to learn AE with no prior experience. I absolutely LOVE this book, its detailed, precise and very well laid out. I'm on Lesson 5 as we speak and just taking 2 minutes out to review it because its SUCH a good book, and what i love mostly about it is that its FUN learning from this book. The exercises in the book result in some quite ugly videos BUT those ugly videos contain A LOT of things that you need to learn, so by the end of each lesson your video might be really rubbish looking but the point here isn't to make nice looking videos, its to learn, and this book does just that, it combines a lot of different exercises and effects in each lesson to cover a wide range of AE features.

Highly recommended if your new to AE

"This is it!" - by Novastar
Now listen very carefully....I will say this only once...
This book, by the Meyers, is the only one you will ever need. It is so comprehensive and is an instructional book, a follow-it book and a reference for anything After Effects. At 752 pages you will find what you want in there somewhere, so buy it whilst the price is so reasonable. I bought it when it was first published and it has been my constant companion ever since.

"Excellent" - by Mazk (Middlesex United Kingdom)
Last night I spent an hour writing an expression that allowed a wheel to turn at the correct speed while travelling along a curved bumpy path. Now, it took a long time to do and a fair amount of thought, but it's something I'd never have even dreamt of a month ago.

The book is excellent, although the chapters are a bit on the long side (I like to be able to finish one chapter in an evening) and I wouldn't buy it unless you've a basic understanding of After Effects.

That said, I knew next to nothing about programming before buying the book. I now have an extremely strong foundation to writing scripts and (more importantly) understanding the scripts of others.

Yes, the going is tough at times, but this has to be the most user friendly book I've ever read on After Effects. A perfect ... full review

"Wish You Were Here?" - by M. J. Saxton (Dewsbury, West Yorkshire United Kingdom)
A pleasure to read. This book captures the atmosphere and style of the 50s Italian movies that are in the narrative. A film star, a rich countess, and a woman with a secret, not to mention a down-on-his-luck journalist, a profiteer, a director and a photographer. What better cast could you ask for.

Add in an encounter at a bohemian society party, a doomed affair (or is it?) and the threat of violence. This book has a brilliant mix of ingredients that, with the skill of Lucy Foley's writing, create a story that will intrigue and play on the emotions.

There feels to be a wash of Technicolor alongside a few black and white vignettes in the yacht journey along the Italian coast to Cannes.

Well worth losing yourself in.
