This album isn't just brilliant its incredibly brilliant, this guy plays it straight ; straight Aces all the way ; pure gold , pure gold ; there is something special about playing it straight ie no special effects ; the groove achieved on this album is so spot on theres as many gems here as many an over blown album combined ; it simply gets you and for clarity of sound it rocks supreme begging to go up a notch on the volume dial!!! great stuff. Alvin shares the singing on this cd with Gould and you can tell the difference immediately. Still a very good CD but i'd still like to hear Alvin at the vocals on all tracks. Well worth the money.

I felt like the C/D wasn't finished. Some of it was great, but the sound and mix were not quite there.

HASH(0x98fc5714) out of 5 stars His masterwork 16 Feb. 2001
By Musicfan68 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
For me RX5 is the best Alvin Lee solo album. It's no blues album but a mix of excellent Mainstream Rock. The Songwriting has never been better. His guitarwork is great and very emotional. It's an album that wins the more often you listen to it. It's a pity that it was never a commercial success. Alvin Lee tried very hard to produce a hit album. His old fans were disappointed because his blues roots were hardly to hear.
HASH(0x97a3a114) out of 5 stars A Lost Classic! 8 May 2015
By Wadonga - Published on Amazon.com
Originally issued in 1981, the lineup features Alvin Lee on guitars and vocals, and also Rare Bird's Steve Gould, with Mickey Feat on bass and drummer Tom Compton. It's a set of mostly mid-tempo rockers and I love it! Whenever I play this for people they always ask, "Who is that?" And they love it too. This should have been huge! Yeah is sounds pretty mainstream, it sits pretty nicely along any other early 1980s rock (ZZ Top, Molly Hatchet, Foreigner, Whitesnake). Listen to it loud and enjoy the great playing and singing on this disc. I call it a lost classic.
