Sony Quality Wins Through
4 October 2019
Being an iPhone user of several years, when the chance came to try an Android phone I felt quite excited about it. First of all, let me point out that in my trial version, all I had was the phone and charger, no headphones/ear buds were included. That said, this is my review of said phone.
The phone is sleek, feels good in the hand, has a bright clear screen, good buttons on the side and is generally quite beautiful - well done SONY.
In use as a phone - up there with the best, clear voice through good speakers and microphones. Talking to a friend he said that my voice seemed exactly the same as on my iPhone and his voice sounded the same as well. Quality.
The screen is really bright and clear and is ideal for watching movies - I used my blue tooth headphone for the sound which is mind blowing. There is plenty of control with the sound too. The same with apps, great sound and high quality clear bright screen.
All the apps I tried were faultless and fast. Being Android there are more (I believe) apps available, although I am not in a position to count as for me, it is about quality and not quantity. BUT from my experience of using this phone, all app were of high quality and worked perfectly.
Learning to use this Android phone was easy enough, even for a pensioner like me. In a way I do feel that it, in some areas is more straightforward to use than my iPhone.
In use one handed, you can get the screen (obviously not the actual screen itself, but what is on the screen) to shrink over to the right hand side, making it easier to use, brilliant if you have small hands.
I love the balance of this phone, it feels perfect in the hand and so easy to use that you soon feel it is a favourite and (dare I say) at times even more comfortable than my new iPhone 8.
THE NOT SO GOOD
The phone is solid enough, but I do feel is it a bit too sleek and slippery. It has been said that the screen marks too easily (fingerprints) but I haven't really noticed this to be a problem. As I said, all I received was the phone so the only way I could test the sound was to use my own Blue Tooth headphones. However, I am not complaining as it is really about the phone.
The only other little niggle - for me anyway - is that the fingerprint recognition pad is on the side and so you would probably use your thumb, and whilst this is no big deal, I find it a bit odd.
IN DAILY USE
The triple camera are stunning. The quality of the photos and video they take is amazing. Already I have made a short video using all three cameras and the finished result is something I am proud of. Who'd have thought that a mobile camera could take such clear and high quality photos and video, and all in a small package? Amazing.
I like to listen to music and with my Blue Tooth headphones connected, my appetite for good music is well satisfied.
I haven't tried everything yet, but what I have tried is what I generally use daily/weekly and so far this is turning into a wonderful phone. I keep forgetting that it is a mobile phone as I tend to use it for so much more.
Thank you Sony and Amazon for letting me try this - it is so excellent that I have to give the full 5 stars.
Had this for over two weeks now and I can not understand why it has been given anything less that 4/5 stars. For me this is an amazing smart phone and as far as every day use is concerned I feel it is as good as my iPhone 8. OK so it does have a few quirks, but surely no one smart phone can cover everything that everyone wishes for.
So after a good trial os the new Sony Xperia 5 it still gets a 5 star thumbs up from me.
