My controller was acting up, the buttons were starting to stick on me so it was time for a change. This controller was a slight bit more expensive then the plain black one, there is no difference to this one then to the black one on a technical point. However, that paint sure looks nice! Yes, I bought a more expensive controller for a paint job, but I dont feel bad about it, after all, gold is my favourite colour!
As far as Sony controllers go, the DS4 is much more advanced and more comfortable to use than any of its predecessors. Whilst it still retains the same basic layout and shape, the changes made predominantly to the grip area and triggers have increased its comfort - at least for me. I don't know if its as well built as the DS3 for example as I think they have used a few cheaper materials/parts to cut costs down to be able to include the touch-pad, lightbar and speaker and not have to charge a LOT more. Battery life is also very poor too (even if you turn off the lightbar and speaker) and my particular controller (Gold) doesn't come with a charging cable - although I still have mine supplied with my console. Unfortunately its an essential peripheral and I wouldn't have bought this had my original controller not broken - the left thumb-stick stopped working properly - it became stuck down meaning I couldn't 'click' it - vital for games that use this to 'run'. I had heard about the rubber wearing on the top of the thumbsticks (I used covers) but the Gold controller looks to have a different type of thumbstick without the rubber - so I am hoping that the problems with my original controller are also addressed. As I said, its an essential peripheral for the PS4 and so you are obviously going to need at least 1. It is a lot more comfortable to use for extended gaming sessions thanks to a few design changes over the DS3 but still retains the same layout. Its pointless to recommend it or not because of you have a PS4 you are going to have to have it anyway!
I bought this initially thinking of keeping it as a collector's item. However, I decided to start using it a little bit and now it's become my primary Dualshock. I love it! The "retro" colour is lovely! The feeling and responsiveness is perfect! It's not any different than the other two that I already have except for the fact that I haven't put any decals on it. The two other dualshock controllers I have, have decals on and even though they're very beautiful, there are times that I feel that the triangle and the O buttons stuck under the decal. Until I decide to fix the decals on the other two controllers it will remain my favorite main Dualshock!
Does nothing different in the way of the controller nor does it provide any unique features, however it looks damn cool when I whip this out at Fifa get togethers which normally ends in "I need to get one of those".
Brings back a lot of great memories with my original PS1 controllers and it is always my go-to controller!
Happily purchased this after they announced that it would be available as a standalone product and not just in the 20th anniversary bundle. The controller looks really nice in grey and has the little touch of the PS button being in the original symbol colours. The touch pad has the standard dotted look. Which is not what the original release images showed.
Everything else is the same as the standard versions of the PS4 controller. I would advise getting this if you really want that little piece of nostalgia but if you are looking just for an extra controller and were not fussed about colour. Go for a normal one as this is usually a little more pricey
Ok so my husband really wanted this controller as he said... and I quote. ... it takes me back to my childhood and the ps1 was a legendary console.... so after waiting ages for the product to come back into stock I finally got it for him. It arrived in the standard duals hock 4 box but inside it looked like something from the past. Absolutely love this controller and when I looked at it I remembered playing spyro the dragon!! But in all seriousness it's a beautifully designed controller and we both love it. Thanks sony
Love the PS4 set up totally. The controller has one button that sticks when pressed but eventually it frees up. Or i have to wriggle it a bit. Bit annoying though. Too much trouble to return for me as I’m disabled.
I love the Dualshock 4 and this is the best looking edition in my opinion, a throwback to the original playstation and a great nostalgia trip. I wouldn't pay £55 for it and it is shocking that it doesn't come with a cable at that price, but at £40 on offer I could justify the purchase. Slightly disappointing it doesn't have the patterned touch pad like the edition shipped with the 20th anniversary console, but I understand the need to keep the limited edition console special to those who forked out for it.
Given that I am not going to pay the insane prices of the scalpers (how Sony must love those 'genuine fans' who are now hawking the 20th Anniversary Consoles on the bay) this is as close as I am going to get to the classic grey colour scheme. Come on Sony - just release the classic colour scheme as a standard option for the PS4. Usual Sony quality - feels solid, the twin sticks are comfortable and accurate.
