No Support for YouTube Music
15 December 2018
OK, so I just had delivered a Sonos 5 and a Sonos 1. Unboxing, setting up on the home Wi-Fi and linking the speakers into a “group” was a piece of cake and took only minutes. The sound, as you would expect, is stunning. But there was a surprise for me. And it’s entirely my fault for not visiting the Sonos support forums first. Sonos speakers play music streamed directly from the Sonos App. You link the Sonos app to your subscriptions such as Spotify and Amazon Music and you control the music in your playlists using the Sonos app front end.
Still with me? >> You can ONLY stream music to your speakers from apps that are supported by Sonos. And guess what?? – NO YouTube. I just forked out a lot of money that won’t play music on my YouTube music playlist. Unless you plug your phone or tablet directly into the speaker using an audio cable. So what? Personally, I bought the system because YouTube has a LOT of really good drum-less music that I play along to. This is NOT a simple Bluetooth link, that streams EVERYTHING on your phone. Just thought you should know.
PS. I am using Android on a Samsung Galaxy phone, so don’t message me with the “Airplay” workaround, please.
