This phone is a bit of a mixed blessing for me.
The Camera is superb I have to say, it gets it right most of the time, in terms of exposure control. It has manual mode :) I love it! you can fix the ISO as low as 50 and then play with white balance and shutter speed to suite your subject, and get a decent result with very low sensor noise. I also love the display, its clean and crisp, good colour and little edge bleed, so a nice experience.
Video is also decent, it offers slow motion and 720p, 1080 also QHD video, although the installed video app cannot playback the QHD video! installing vlc fixes this, so its a software problem, not hardware.
Overall the phone feels nippy, responsive and gives a premium feel when using apps. I have noticed that on occasion the keyboard becomes flakey though, and you can either switch to another or restart the phone and it resolves it. Its a software problem I have found, and more with the google keyboard that I use, due to a layout that suits me.
I also immediately installed the Google launcher to replace the LG Launcher. Then it feels more like a "Nexus" device. You can do this right from the App store, no need to do anything complex.
The one issue that I find somewhat problematic, is the Wifi.... it simply goes to sleep way too often, meaning I don't receive notifications; also when I pick up the phone, and the Wifi symbol is active, there is actually no connection. Quickly looking at the Wifi settings, you can see it says connection available, and then will suddenly connect. It was so bad, that Amazon have swapped it out twice for me, but in reality the 3rd one is the same. I have to say that this behaviour varies, so where I work, its performance is nothing short of appalling, I have to toggle it to Airplane mode constantly throughout the day. At home, less so, out and about using Wifi Hotspots, also less so, but still something that niggles and I have to check. If anyone has the answer, please tell me, because LG support deny all knowledge of this issue, whereas if you look around, there are a lot of complaints about it online. I have checked all power settings, and switched off mobile data autoswitch, plus actually switch off mobile data when I am using Wifi, same issue.
Its only the excellent general performance and superb camera that makes me reluctant to switch to another Phone that will inevitably have issues of its own! Better the devil you know ;)
I have been temped to switch back to iPhone, but I love Androids flexibility, and the fact that I can actually place a clock widget on the desktop! I also love the fact that I can choose the apps that are on the active screens, and have all installed Apps in the background. Apple, fix this :)
I have also tried Windows Phone several times, but the lack of Apps, and total lack of any Google support, and the huge number of apps that simply open in a browser, is a joke.... shame as some of their features are nice, but in use, dire!
If you want a mobile that offers a premium performance, an excellent camera, good audio performance, a beautiful display, slim build, replaceable battery, accessible sim, the ability to add a micro SD card, then this might well be for you. Battery life is ok, its a pocket computer remember, they all drink juice if you play with it a lot :)
Definitely recommended. Thank you Amazon also for exchanging it for me, Superb service as always!
