A review for the real W2700
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 July 2019
An important first point - most of the reviews supposedly for this projector have to be for another model. In response to my query I received this reply. "Thank you for contacting BenQ and Thank you for your question.
Yes, you are right, the model W2700 is a new model released this year."
For me, the best features of the W2700 and the ones that persuaded me to buy it: the high quality of the colour rendering, automatic keystone correction and automatic focus adjustment when the zoom is changed. The projector comes with a printout of the factory calibration so that buyers can be sure that it conforms to the claimed 100% of the HDTV standard (Rec. 709).
One point to be aware of is that this has a relatively short throw so it may need to be moved closer to the screen when replacing an existing projector. Another factor to be aware of is that the noise level is higher than some machines - there is a silence mode that reduces the noise, but this restsricts the resolution to HD rather than 4K and does not allow any choice of PIcture Mode.
To end on a positive note one feature of the W2700 that I haven't seen elsewhere is the ability to update the firmware via a USB stick. This has already improved my machine by givng more control over the Dynamic Iris (it now has three levels as well as off, instead of simply on and off.
The documentation does not say which website has the updated firmware - this is benq.eu, under Support. Here you will find a YouTube video showing the process as well as the update itself. One important word of warning - the video doesn't make it clear that the screen goes blank for some time while the update is in progess. It's probably better to go away and do something else rather than watch the screen. With any luck, by the time you return, the process will be over.
