Not what you will expect?

I believe that the title 'downsizing' is crucial. I don't think this is about the science of people being shrunk physically, for the various reasons given. Non of them make sense at all, and the film would then have been about battles between the tiny humans and all the insects etc that would be bound to get at them. That doesn't happen.
For me, the film was about life.
We all set off with plans for what we are going to do with our lives. Some of us however, don't reach this mythical point where they are a success, with huge riches and the perfect wife and family.
The film explores one such life.
This guy is 2 years into a medical degree that would have put him on the path he wanted. Then the dominoes started to fall to lead him somewhere else. His mother is ill, he gives up the doctor avenue.
He still qualifies as a sort of physiotherapist. He marries and is slowly building up money.
Then the downsizing comes in... Okay he is ACTUALLY shrunk.
But the point is, his marriage is gone and so has his money. He's now just a telephone sales rep. Surely can't get worse?
Yep.... another domino drops and he's a cleaner. All the time, he's changing and interacting with different people that he would never get to meet.
Anyhow, when the film ends he's found happiness but he's a million miles away from where he planned to be.
downsized in a different way?
So...I think the film is actually quite good. It's 3.5 stars.
Clever idea. Annoying in places. (the 'neighbour' from upstairs is really annoying)
