Nice TV but has a couple of glitches
on 11 October 2017
Easy to set up. Picture quality is fine, although I did find some of the extra settings such as 'motion plus' were better turned off. I find the sound is pretty good when listening to music but, like most flat screen TV's, the quality can vary a lot when watching other programmes. I found that 'optimised' sound setting gave the best quality by far. It connected up fine to my Wi-Fi, I haven't used the smart functions too much other than trying out YouTube and everything worked ok. No short cuts on the remote for any of the apps, such as Netflix, but that doesn't bother me. Neither does it have any Scart sockets, but it does have 3 HDMI ports. There is no light display on the TV when it's turned on or when you use the remote (a lot of people turn that feature off anyway) but a red light does come on at the front when the TV is put in stand by, this cannot be disabled.
A couple of minor irritations to be aware of. There is supposed to be a function where you can rename your source inputs (to DVD player etc) however it only stores and remembers the name for as long as the device is turned on, as soon as the DVD player, in my case, is turned off it forgets the name you have entered and when you turn your device back on again it is once more labelled as 'HDMI Unknown'. I also have a Sky HD box, which it renamed during the set up process, and it does remember the name for that, even when it goes into standby, but the whole function of renaming the other source inputs is a complete waste of time and totally pointless if it is only temporary. On my previous TV the inputs were visible at all times if you pressed the 'source' button, here the inputs disappear from your list completely if the connected device is turned off, so you need to turn the device on before trying to switch to it, all rather poorly designed I'm afraid. I have also noticed that when I turn on my DVD recorder if I don't switch the input source to it straight away, and before it loads up properly, then the TV freezes and I can't do anything with it. I have to switch both the DVD player off and then turn the TV off and back on again to get it going again. However as long as I change the input source as soon as it appears on the screen there is no problem, all rather bizarre!
The other nuisance is that if you go into the TV settings to make any adjustments the Smart Hub banner (where you access your apps, settings and sources) pops up again afterwards when you exit. Although you can stop the Smart Hub from appearing each time the TV is turned on I have no idea why it pops up randomly when you exit the TV settings, if you've just exited your settings and gone back to your screen you don't need the banner popping up again. You'd like to think these little glitches could be fixed with a firmware update, but I've had a few updates through and no change, so I won't hold my breath.
It's a shame about the couple of glitches, which are rather annoying, as I would have been fairly happy with everything else
