26 mackerel landed with this combo!
on 11 August 2017
Well, the pics say it all really...it works! Took this neat little rod to the rocks at the weekend, here's how I got on...
-firstly, the combo comes in a hard case, which is pretty rare for a rod/reel set. Very handy. I slipped the whole case into my large fishing rucksack and it kept everything together and in one piece.
-easy to change the reel from left handed to right handed operation (it came set for left). And very easy to set the rod up!
-the tackle provided is decent quality, not what I used for my fishing trip as I was after mackerel but would be ideal for other target fish. I also loaded the reel with my own, heavier line but the stuff provided is handy (you always need extra!)
-despite not being huge, the rod handled 2 mackerel at a time plus a 2oz lead weight...it was able to haul this load up a 10 feet rock face. I didn't use more than 2 lures at a time as I didn't want to push my luck. Good bend on the rod and at no point felt like it was about to snap.
-the overall quality is excellent. Reel has a smooth action and nice feel to it. Eyelets are all super smooth and well seated. Extending handle is a god send, gives great handling ability!
-collapsing the rod is as easy as setting it up, didn't stick or jam.
A very good piece of kit. I usually use a beach caster so I'm used to rods packing a punch, this thing handled decent weight with ease and didn't disappoint. Absolutely perfect as a starter rod or even as a secondary rod for the experienced angler. Took 26 mackerel with this thing in a morning, it definitely works. Just remember to rinse the rod as well as the reel with fresh water after use...telescopics HATE salt water. Ideally, this combo should be used for lake and river fishing, with stuff like trout being a perfect target. But as shown, it's not out of its depth for sea fishing!!
