Noisy, buggy and DOESN'T do Dolby Vision. Avoid.
31 December 2017
I, like I imagine many others here, bought this player because it was relatively cheap yet advertised top features like Dolby Vision. I figured it'd go nicely with my new LG OLED. Unfortunately I was wrong.
I tried a few discs. Blade Runner, Starship Troopers, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Dark Knight. Not a single one played through without a freeze or outright crash. The unit was noisy at parts during all movies, and I mean NOISY. It's like there's no vibration dampening whatsoever in the unit. When it needs to spin up the disc it goes crazy. Easily heard over the movie being played.
It also still doesn't offer support for Dolby Vision, despite the product page continuing to advertise that feature. I feel this is incredibly misleading, it's blatantly false advertising. LG support have been dangling the carrot for months apparently and there's still no sign of it or any clear ETA. I don't think they should be allowed to advertise it as supporting DV until it actually does.
If you were looking for a cheap DV player, avoid this unit.
If you want to enjoy your movies all the way through and without the player causing a racket during said movies, avoid this player.
Hopefully CES 2018 brings some new players in the same price range that are quiet, reliable and actually offer all advertised features.
