After the SNES I became more aligned with the PlayStation. I dabbled with the Wii but essentially eschewed Nintendo. I've become increasingly concerned about the direction of games, especially with the mentality that games are now regarded as services and consumers are therefore cash cows, ripe for milking. I started looking at back catalogues of games and took a gamble with a Switch. The one thing that I had forgotten, but thankfully found again, is that Nintendo is all about fun, especially with it's own intellectual property like Super Mario. I've been too damned serious about games for too long, and even more so about collecting PlayStation trophies. This game is fun. Lots of fun. Lots of secrets and lots of collectibles and not a single loot box or micro-transaction to ruin it. My entire family are playing this now.
I shall keep this short.. the level design is as close to perfection as I have seen in a game. It is the biggest Mario to date with layers upon layers of secrets and shortcuts and collectibles. It feels like Mario yet has so many new ideas and worlds that it also feels really fresh and original. Quite frankly Inam blown away! Wasn't a massive fan of Mario 3D World on the WiiU, this game improves on it in every way. Best Mario since Galaxy 2 and yes, it's better than that too. 10/10.
I was really excited about receiving this on its release day! I am not a big gamer but always have enjoyed the Mario series. What I love about this is you can play using play assist mode which helps you navigate Mario world and gives you tips on how to play throughout. Great option for younger children and older non gamers like me! I also like the fact you can save anytime during the game. Overall a brilliant game with a great story line and fantastic graphics. Highly recommended!!
The best Mario game to date and a new definition of platforming games. I wont say anything that hasnt been said since it was released but this game is just pure fun - levels are amazingly designed and have so many different collectibles that you will be coming back multiple times to find and discover new items, routes
This game pushes the genre into a new territory and anyone that likes games will just fall in love with it
It is a must buy for any Nintendo Switch owner and is definitely a system seller!
I madly purchased a Nintendo Switch just to play this game, and I’m not disappointed. The game is phenomenal I have to say. I’m a mature gamer and this is certainly one of the best games I have ever played. It reminds me of the first kind of gaming joy I had playing Mario 64 when that was first released. The variety of gameplay is very cool, it looks and sounds fantastic. Its just a fun game to play… young or old will appreciate it. If you have ever liked Super Mario before, this is the game for you.
Just a fantastic game. Buy it immediately! My favourite Mario game is still Super Mario World on SNES, but this is by far the best 3D Mario game.. going back to Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine after this just makes those games seem unplayably dated and sluggish. There's loads of gameplay here.. once you finish the (easy) main game.. the worlds really open up and offer loads more challenge. The graphics are wonderful, it has a great soundtrack.. the controls are tight and precise.. Mario is an utter joy to control.. and there's tons of variety.. Special mention must go to the awesome sections where it goes to a p seudo-8-bit 2d platformer.. these are incredible - I could play a whole game of these parts..
Must hand it to Nintendo. It felt like they were down and out, especially after the not so popular wii-u. But they have worked their magic to come up with another amazing, original, fun and polished game. If Zelda wasn't enough to sell the Switch, this will surely help it fly off the shelves.
Potentially one of the best Mario games to date. I'm addicted and I've only owned it a week. It's an easy yet challenging game for kids and adults (I hate when people say "fun for all the family" because usually that just means "bland", but not in this case). I've always loved Mario games and this is no exception. The colours in HD are just gorgeous (on TV and on the gamepad) and it's got an adorable plot too. I fully intend to 100% complete this one. The controls on the Switch are tricky though. I'd consider myself a Mario expert and I even have trouble doing the Cap Jump and Dive Jump.
A fantastic, fun and wonderfully charming adventure with the worlds most famous plumber. Taking heavy inspiration from Mario 64 and sprinklings of other games in the franchise, this is truly one of Nintendo's finest. From the design to gameplay, this game and the variety it crams into every nook, will keep gamers of all ages smiling and enjoying every second its switched on. Controls are responsive whether you use the suggested set up or use the pro controller. A must have for your switch library.
This is more than just the best 3d Mario game yet, it is more than just one of the 2-3 essential Switch games out at the moment. It is a celebration of the franchise that made Nintendo who they are today.
It is charming, fun and rewarding. It focuses a bit less on the platforming side, which actually is a good thing. There is so much exploration in it, in a similar way to Breath of the Wild the game wants you to play around.
My daughter loves it too, she is 7 which is more or less the age I was when Mario 64 came out. The game has captured her heart in the same way.
Still though, if you're going to buy one game for the Switch only. It's Zelda ;)
