Worth a watch for fans of the Office
12 November 2017
It's watchable for fans of the office, but predictable and largely follows the same story arc as the series i.e. cringe at him ,feel sorry for him, be happy for him when he meets someone who sees past his crippling need to be liked to the kind hearted chap underneath.
I was under the impression he was set to live happily ever after from the ending of the Christmas special with Carol but afaik this pivotal moment of the Office finale was never referred to and he's back to the old lonely and desperate to be liked Brent from before. Problem this time round is there isn't the great supporting cast to help carry the plot as there was with the Office (Gareth, Tim, Dawn, Finchy et al). And like just about everything Gervais has done since the Office it also, painfully at times, liberally re-uses old content from his XFM radio shows. He must thank his lucky stars he met Karl Pilkington back then because he's been living off Karl's anecdotes and observations from the show ever since. Give it a try if you're bored.
