I ordered these when on special, as I would never pay such an amount for headphones, I am not into music, and to be honest would run music through my sound bar or via my PC speakers. I do not sit on trains with headphones and if I were to listen outside the house would use normal ear buds on my phone. So what do you use them for I hear you ask. I watch films on my laptop or Ipad, I also use YouTube when studying so when studying in bed as an example. So please read this review bearing this in mind I am not a hi-fi fanatic.
Items arrived next day (Amazon Prime), they came in a black box with silver lettering and a headphone picture, underneath the box was the serial number etc. The box had a solid feel. Inside the box, a thank you card for buying, a black plastic pouch for storing the headset, unicef card to leave a review and they will donate $1, another thank you card please leave a review-competition, finally the headset and leads and instruction Manuel.
Instruction Manuel is 14 pages of which 4 sides are in English. The Headphones and leads are protected by a foam insert, more than adequate for shipping though would not last long if you were going to store them in the box. Two leads are supplied the charging lead 60cm which feels flimsy and has a feel it will not last long, however as it is a standard lead can easily be replaced, a 3.5mm stereo to stereo jack plug which is 1.2m long, again this lead does not feel like it will last long. However; in fairness both leads did work.
The headphones, first impression unlike the leads were good they look and feel solid though light in weight (A good thing!). The headband is chunky with stitched sott plastic covering and very comfortable to wear. The extension pulls out by just under 4cm either side so good adjustments, the plastic/metal adjustment feels solid with a nice positive click for each latch. The swivel is between the plastic so I cannot see if it is metal or plastic, but feels solid. The cups have a soft plastic pad which comfortably fits over my ears and caused no issues with my glasses. The actual cups themselves are in black polished plastic so shows my finger marks but again have a solid feel. I do look after my things so I see these will last in terms of build quality for me, not sure about the swivel, on the plus side the swivel is held in place by what looks like star screws so a repair could be made?
The left cup with the battery contains the charging port and led, the instruction manual shows the lid off revelling the battery, I could not work out how to remove this and will wait until I need to change the battery before trying (do not want to invalidate the guarantee).
The right cup has the 3.5mm jack and switch and volume control. The triangular control was odd at first but soon got used to it, you have to hold it for the volume to change just a quick press skips tracks etc.
Pairing was straight forward moved the switch to ‘BT’ and was recognised by my Ipad/Iphone and Windows laptop. Move to ‘on’ for noise cancelling.
Noise cancelling mode was amazing, I have a set of Bose headphones for flying and was amazed how the engine noise drops away, I did not expect the same result from these but was pleasantly surprised, as an example the hum of the fan in the oven just disappeared. Would imagine on a transatlantic flight these would be great for reducing cabin noise.
Interestingly if you use the 3.5mm jack you do need to switch the switch to either ‘BT’ or ‘on’, if left in the off position they will not work. I have not let the battery run down to see if they will still function on the 3.5mm lead. Saying that first charge I used the headphones for about 7 hours before re-charging and the battery had not gone flat.
Sound quality (note my first comment) I thought they were fine, good base response, music sounded good to me, for the films and video the sound was excellent, plenty of volume movement.
For the price I paid (thanks Amazon for the prime day) they are first class and I have now discarded my old wired headset and the cheapo bluetooth set I had.
Would definitely recommend. But as stated would never pay the full price, if they were BOSE or something I might think about paying that type of money as I know I could send them back if they went faulty.
Would I buy again, definitely!
