Some Good, Some Frustration, But Mostly BORING!
on 10 April 2018
Like title says. There's been some improvement in gameplay elements but it comes with the price of a lack of content and unbalanced multiplayer: So unbalanced, that it often results in you getting irritated because you know that the painfully casualised gameplay makes it so simple for anyone to do well. Literally no skill is involved. The damage model/lag is embarrassing: I hate shooting people dozens of times and then somehow they kill me. Also the fact that there's not much to unlock will quickly lead to meaningless progression and lack of customisation and diversity in gameplay thus leads to boredom. Plus, WHY THE LONG LOADING SCREENS AND SHORT MATCHES?
At least this EA Battlefront title has a campaign I suppose. The introduction of a class system is a welcome addition. Of course the graphics are good (it's DICE after all) and they continue to create visually stunning games. But none of this overcomes the serious problem the reboot EA Battlefront franchise has; EA are the problem. BUT DICE also, since DICE are not willing to give the ol' franchise schoolers what we really want: That is, 64 player Conquest or something similar with that player count and plenty of content to play for hundreds of hours. The Conquest thing is only because of the concern it may be branded a "Battlefield clone". But anyone who played the original franchise knows that is exactly what it was. So what's the problem?
All in all don't buy this game. It's not worth investing in. And it's likely that, as others have mentioned about pay-to-win microtransactions that were there before, that even though they have been forced to stop them it is likely only temporary.
2 Stars because to me, improvement was made, but ultimately it is a big disappointment of a reboot franchise, and it feels like EA can't help but ruin it for us. Wouldn't surprise me if they were in financial trouble in the future, as I'd imagine much of their player bases would diminish over time, because of the continued let downs and greedy antics by this publisher/game developer whilst seemingly also not paying attention to the communities of its franchises.
