Top critical review
Good, eminently watchable, not quite great
27 January 2017
The core of the story and the delivery of the individual characters are really very solid but to fulfil the role of spy thriller the screenplay requires much more sophistication in the latter stages of the film. Without giving any spoilers away, the film oscillated too much between hard edged state intelligence versus organised crime, and absurd lapses in survival traits for the characters. In the end this is a decent, enjoyable watch, but it missed the opportunity to deliver something really gripping by failing to maintain the same level throughout.
If you like Le Carré and appreciate the genre with a light touch, well worth a watch. If you need something more compelling, it may disappoint.
