British Feel Good Film with Sensational Sally Hawkins
11 August 2017
This is another feel-good film based on a true story, the kind of thing the Brits do so well. The story of the women in the Dagenham motor factory who fought for equal pay back in the late 1960s is true, but the writers took some liberties in adapting the story in order to make a better film. And it works a treat. I absolutely loved it.
The cast is quite sensational, with all the actors turning in wonderful perfomances. Sally Hawkins in the lead is absolutely amazing, and the supporting cast with Bob Hoskins, Rosamund Pike, Andrea Riseborough and the irrepressable Jaime Winstone in a hugely enjoyable role, and many others is equally great. The 60s are beautifully portrayed through well chosen period sets and costumes typical for the decade. Great detail is also paid to the social norms of the time and the way people interacted back then.
The DVD has some very nice extra features:
- English Subtitles
- Audio description for the visually impaired
- Director's commentary with Nigel Cole with optional subtitles for the commentary (really nice feature that)
- Behind the Scenes featurette
- Deleted Scenes
