Since I bought the box set Boston Legal and thoroughly enjoyed it, such that I look forward to watching the whole series sometime in the future, I decided to buy the Ally McBeal box set since it was created by the same writer of the truly remarkable Boston Legal. I however found that while Boston legal comes across as a work of great maturity with profound understanding of the human mind and boasts of huge knowledge derived from years of experience in the legal field, Ally McBeal on the other hand comes across as something from someone who just graduated from Law school, in their first job as lawyer, and trying to make sense of some serious legal arguments. In many ways some of the legal arguments belong within the safety of a University debating society and not in the real world.
On the plus side, Ally McBeal is like the hugely successful TV series, "Friends"...., twenty-something year olds trying to find love and put up roots etc. While the characters in Friends chill out in a coffee shop, the characters in Ally McBeal hang out in a bar after office hours.
The story lines at times struggle to keep Ally McBeal and other characters interesting in that one always suspect, the end of the line, and indeed the end of the attraction or fascination is when they find love and settle down with 2.4 kids and fido, the family dog.
