Made in the old fashioned way, second by second!

I love this film, and have watched it twice since I received it. (That makes it three times in total). It just has a really abrupt ending that makes me wonder what the hell is going on- so I watch it again, but feel the same. The story (apart from the ending) is beautiful and very watchable. It also has a slightly spooky element. But a lovely wholesome feeling fills me also when I watch it. It definitely delivers.
The thing that really got me, is when I watched the 'extras' on the DVD; it turns out that the whole film was shot with actual plasticine dummies (or whatever they were made out of). Tim Burton chose to shoot the film in an old fashioned way and make every second painstakingly count. That puts a new perspective on the film when you watch it for the second time. This is not a computer generated film- this is done with a tiny little set and a whole bunch of people working every hour god sends to move a little model this way and that to make every second count on film.
