I got into Camouflage in 1988 when I was just 16. I'm 31 now and this, their 6th studio album, is simply in a class of it's own. Gone is the distinctive electronic synth sound of early material. Instead, we are presented with an edgier, more serious body of songs. There is distinct world-weariness in evidence, Camouflage are older and wiser. There is also a celebration and confirmation of the enduring values of emotional love throughout. After all Camouflage are dreamers with a purpose and we expect them to help us dream as well. 'Perfect', 'Thief' and 'I can't feel you' are stand out tracks for me but this whole album just gets better and better after each listen. Welcome back Camouflage, it's been too long.
I've listened to a lot of 'synthpop' in my time, from Depeche Mode and early New Romantic to modern day practitioners like And One and Mesh and while this Cd is very reminiscent of those acts it's in a totally different class. While delivering aesthetically with its complex and beautiful layers of synthetic sounds "Sensor" comes into its own in the songwriting department. Every track is a potential single, every melody instantly memorable and the lyrics are surprisingly coherent and touching. I can't say enough good things about this CD. It's absolutely flawless in every way.
