Engaging First Books
21 November 2015
This actually could be applied to all the 'That's Not My...' books for small children. I think so far my wife and I (grandparents) have bought six of these books, all of which follow the same pattern. Essentially on each double hardbacked page you see an object or animal with some sort of tactile insert - maybe a shiny window or furry paw - followed by, 'That's not my.....,' until the last page when you eventually come across thing you are looking for.
It's simple, but ideally geared towards toddlers whom you are trying to get interested in books and reading. The simplicity and repetition means that 14 month onwards children start to engage and recognise pictures and objects. The pictures are colourful and attractive to small eyes. The books are tough enough to withstand the kind of abuse that small hands can do. Certainly my grandson - who really should be called Bam Bam - hasn't managed to wreck anything yet.
My granddaughter who is most inter her books will happily bimble back and forth to the well stocked kiddies bookshelf in our house and usually will go through this series of books first.
Overall, I find sitting there reading these simple touchable books with my grandchildren utterly priceless.
