Perhaps you may have heard a couple of Emilio Pujol compositions on an early Julian Bream recording. If so, you'll know that these tracks could only have been written for guitar, as the harmonies and occasional dissonances would not be found on any other instrument. Some of the pieces - Guajira, or Seguidilla, for instance - are breathtaking. Even what seem like simple pieces - such as the Etude in Bm, for instance - turn into something more flowing and spectacular as they get going.
This CD is chock-full of attractive music, very little of which is predictable, and is one of the best guitar CDs in my collection. But don't mistake THIS Pujol (1886-1980) for Maximo Diego Pujol (born 1957) whose music, though attractive, IS predictable.
