Just finished reading 'Siberian Red' another in Sam Eastlands Pekkala series. I must admit when Pekkala began working for Stalin I was surprised, as I still am today. The shear horror and degradation of being sent to Siberia to a camp is really brought home when Pekkala is sent to one (albeit to solve a crime!). Its like you give up hope, your life, everything you once valued on the whim of one person (Stalin).Eastland's writing is tuned to the grim, dark horror that people must have gone through who actually lived through these times. I'm pleased to have read the Tsar seems to have been Stalin's equal when it comes to inhumam barbarity. Really enjoy this Pekkala series, bring on the next one!Siberian Red
