Customer Review

on 3 February 2012
I think Wilfred Owen's poetry and Benjamin Britten's music are excellent and faithful interpretations of these war events in the early 20th century. I watched the programme with a printed copy of all the lyrics and poetry in front of me, and found it very helpful and moving. But I was disappointed with the Derek Jarman interpretation. I was a Nursing Officer in the Army in the 1970s, and my grandfather was a blacksmith with the Royal Artillary during WWI. I chose this DVD to see the visualisation and be reminded of his and my experiences. I was disappointed at the inaccuracies in portraying the people, places and uniforms. With just a little research these things could have been much better.

For viewers who don't have my personal and family background, the visualisation on the DVD is acceptable, but please don't rely on it for accuracy.
