This review is from: Going Commando (Bootneck Threesome) (Paperback)
A fascinating book on many levels, and shows the value of a service career to a bright young lad from a less than conventional and settled background. The thought of any of the 16 year olds I know going through CTC, when most can't find their arse with a map, and the unavailability of wifi and a soya latte is considered major hardship, is amusing to say the least. The training regime is brutal, but it is clearly so for a reason. Firstly, it weeds out the guys who haven't quite got the requisite mettle, and that's as much it seems, if not more, about mental toughness than muscles, and secondly, it encourages a self reliance, but in the context of a team - who look out for each other, which I would imagine is critical in a combat situation.
Humorous, smart, short on dick swinging bravado, and self deprecatory -this is fascinating read and I'm very much looking forward to part two. Recommended.
