Customer Review

Maybe I have just read too many Catherine Cookson books recently but I have begun to feel that some of them follow the same old formula. Poor girl marries into rich family and then things start to go wrong.

Nancy Ann is the daughter of the local Parson and is a bit of a tomboy having two older brothers who taught her how to fight and rough and tumble with them. She finds the former skill helpful when she is set upon by some rough boys from the village and nearly raped.

As she grows she meets Dennison Harpcore who for all his dissolute ways, resolves that she will be his. Nancy Ann's dying Mother more or less pushes the girl into marriage with Dennison but by this time Nancy Ann has already fallen in love with him much to the disgust of her Father who can see right through him.

Nancy Ann goes to live at the Manor House and disovers all sorts of skeletons in cupboards and even finds that one isn't a skeleton, but a living breathing young boy.
This is where the story starts to get reasonably interesting.

I can't really recommend this because there are better Catherine Cookson books than this. It wasn't a bad buy though for £1.99. (Kindle Version).
