1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment, 8 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Mousetrap Board Game (Toy)
Like several other reviewers, I loved Mousetrap when I was a kid, and eagerly anticipated playing it with my own kids on Christmas day. But alas - it was the biggest disappointment of the day. We took it back to Argos on Boxing day. The fun of the original game was building the whole trap mechanism during the game. And it was entirely buildable. This new version - two adults (not unintelligent!) spent an hour trying to work out how to build the thing, without success. We gave up. Thankfully, Morrisons supermarket did a wee cheap version for a fiver, that was pretty much like the original Mousetrap.

Jordan Scott says:
Even compared to the original, which at least had something describable as a charm, there are better children's games on Amazon now: search the toy section for "Drei Magier", "Zoch", "Haba games", "Djeco games" or "Gigamic", European publishers that do games with little to no set-up required, big, solid wooden pieces that aren't easily knocked over and actual gameplay, not just chance, but which can be explained in seconds and gives children the advantage by being based on short-term memory or suited to small hands. All of which puts the now-big British and American publishers that established the art form of original games to shame (though I have heard that "Sorry! Sliders" is unusually excellent, though annoyingly not distributed in the UK).
