When I first started reading "Merely Magic" I found it quite hard-going. I felt that the characters were repeating themselves over and over again. So why have I given it five stars? The reason is that even though it was slow at the beginning, the novel really, really grows on you. The novel is about two very different people. The hero, a man that believes in only what he can see and therefore dismisses anything he deems "illogical" - which is basically every word that the heroine utters! The heroine is a "witch" who believes in the sprirtual and the power of the earth around her. The way the characters overcame this struggle was endearing and the overall tenderness of the story really drew me in. This was a lovely read that wiled away a long cold winter night! It is highly reccomended.
