This went through a handful of troubled script re-writes and it shows; despite considerable on screen talent and having Richard Donner Lethal Weapon [DVD] in the directors chair, it's a bit of a dud. The plot is wafer thin, the characters are empty and the action committs the cardinal sin of being flat and boring. Stallone presides over the confused character of a long time hitman who wants out and to be fair he does no worse than any other action star would. As Stallones nemesis, Banderass is particularly poor, he's a mop haired psycho who wants to kill the best in the game so he can be number one....his character, rather than being a cool killer, is prone to impatient and childish outbursts which makes him look silly rather than dangerous. I don't expect much from action pictures and regularly find redeeming features in all kinds of low budget and b-movies, this debacle had a $50 million price tag and has nothing to show for it.
