I can't think of any other band who require such perseverance as Pere Ubu, and this album requires more than most. But it is really worth the effort; so although it's taken me longer to get there than usual, I now think that this is a great album. Let's face it, if you don't want to be challenged (a perfectly reasonable attitude) then Pere Ubu are best avoided anyway; but if you've already bought into David Thomas's off-kilter universe, then this is an emphatic restatement of his radical manifesto. It's as if 'The Threepenny Opera' had been written by Stockhausen. Good luck everybody.
