The best recording of leading Vivaldi's religious works !,
This review is from: Vivaldi: Vespri per l'Assunzione di Maria Vergine (Audio CD)
This album features a premium collection of some of Vivaldi's masterworks. The Magnificat that was recorded by Alessandrini on a previous album (opus 111, 1999), gets an even better performance here. I already had the Nisi Dominus and Salve Regina featuring the great Andreas Scholl (Dir. Pual Dyer, DECCA, 2001) and loved it, but Sara Mingado gives such an exquisite appearance that really "upgraded" my delight, an experience of re-discovering the music in the case of the Nisi Dominus. The album also includes a superb version of the Dixit Dominus (RV 594), and I highly recommend to complement it with a record of the Dixit Dominus (RV 807) that was discovered in 2005 - dir. Peter Kopp, Archiv Produktion, 2006 - that also features Sara Mingardo and Roberta Invernizzi Vivaldi: Dixit Dominus. finally, another gem in this album is the Laudare pueri (RV 600), preformed gracefully by Gemma Betagnolli.
The album I purchased is a limited version released by Naïve in 2008 (OP 30475) which includes some pages of original manuscripts by Vivaldi, and only numerous items of it are still available online, but don't hesitate to purchase the 2003 release (OP 30383) - it is truly a must-have to all Baroque music lovers.
