Martin's first album, 'Big Guitar' is one of my favourites and I play it a lot. This one? Well, I wanted to like it but the choices of the various guests are too spread apart in style. Putting them next to each other jars, and I had that feeling of wanting to re-order the tracks and maybe remove some.
The best tracks are the ones that feature Martin, these are 'Get Rhythm', 'I Viberate', and 'Alison'. But where's some of those Belmont originals like 'Bonton Roulez' from 'Big Guitar'? , and I'd have liked a lot more of his 'big guitar' (the Fender 6-string bass').
Giving the guests a fairly free hand to decide on their offering has left the album a litle weak in places, so for your next album, Martin, let's have you romping through bigger arrangements with some of your own material - plenty of Fender Bass VI, steel guitar, rolling piano, close-mic'd acoustic rhythm, double-tracked vocals with harmonies and a chorus behind, and a decent low-tuned kick for those of us with subs!
