If you're looking for a guide to Spain, you could do no better than this Lonely Planet one. It's very well laid out and easy to navigate (important given that it's fairly weighty). It covers the entire country and has in-depth info on the big cities like Madrid and Barcelona (and includes a pull-out map of Barcelona). There are lots of maps generally, all of which are easy to follow. There's a lot of useful info on temperature, top places to visit, where to eat and stay, activities, courses and tours, entertainment, shopping and lots of local insider info. There's also a lot of general information on Spain, how to get around, customs regulations and so on in the 'survival guide' section. If you like your guide books to have lots of pictures, though, this isn't for you. There are very few. But you can visit the places they recommend and take your own! The only other downside is its size - it'll take up a fair amount of space in your hand luggage. Great book though - we'll be taking it when we go away to Spain in a couple of weeks.
