Pretty straightforward installation and looks great,
This review is from: Nest Learning Thermostat (DIY & Tools)
The thermostat arrived today and it took me a couple of hours to install it this evening. A couple of minor hiccups - it wouldn't give me the entry key to pair with with my account (a restart fixed this) and the Heat Link won't pair with the thermostat wirelessly but I am using it wired anyway (i'll get the installer to take a look at this one when he comes to officially put it in.)
Apart from that the only missing feature I can see is that there is no timed-away feature but I guess the iphone app goes some way to replacing that. Would be a nice feature to add.
As other people have said, this won't control your hot water but this doesn't bother me as I have a combi. Not much else to say really!

from what I have seen the two wires connecting the nest to the heat link are to provide a 12V power supply. they dont provide any control/comms between to the two units.

You are probably right - it did seem strange that data would be sent over the same cables as power (although I can't imagine there is a lot of data). Also instructions do say "The Heat Link and Nest Thermostat communicate wirelessly, even if they are also connected by cables ". However it was strange that it only paired once connected to the 12v power and not via USB power. Also strange that the polarity of the 12v power is not important.
