I could not believe it when my most fondly remembered drama series of the 1970s was listed for release on DVD and all the other seasons as well. I do remember the show and always thought it cleverly made as all the action is on the set. it does remind me of a filmed theatre production at times and each 2 episodes offer a complete story. Amazingly after all these years bits of the stories came back whilst watching and in particular the one with a young Nigel Havers whose character dies from a heart disease as part of the story. I had seen Jean Taylor Smith in Rep and thought what a lovely part for an ageing actress...the nanny and a Scot to boot. Philip Latham such a distinguished looking actor and star of so many productions on and off stage was perfectly cast and played the Commander with authority sometimes too much. The stories are of a long gone era back in the 1970s and now may seem even more remote from today and yet well made and compact they retain your interest. If you enjoy actor spotting then this is also the series for you as whenever the front door opens on a new character you never know who might be playing them. Great value, picture quality excellent and even the sound is good which is a big plus.
